The Greater Kruger Area

The Greater Kruger Area refers to the Kruger to Canyon region, which covers a very large area including the Kruger National Park as well as all the surrounding private game reserves including the Blyde River Canyon Reserve.

Three of Southern Africa’s biomes are incorporated into this biosphere region, including the grasslands and Afro-montane forests and the savanna of the lowveld. This region has much to offer the prospective safari enthusiast. The list is exceptionally long and diverse. 

Greater Hoedspruit Area

The Greater Hoedspruit Area is located within the Maruleng Municipal Area. We are geographically located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa though we border the Mpumalanga Province.

The town is surrounded by conservation area's and is known as a wildlife haven. With a multitude of tourism accommodation establishments and tourism attractions - Hoedspruit has become world famous for it high quality African Wildlife experiences ranging from rustic to super luxury.

The town name "Hoedspruit" is derived from the Afrikaans words which directly translated means "Hat Creek".

Hoedspruit has a few claims to fame:
  • The town "Hoedspruit" is surrounded by the largest privately owned conservation area in the world.
  • The area is also at the centre of a designated UNESCO registered site: The Kruger to Canyon Biosphere.
  • The Blyde River Canyon is one of the worlds largest canyons and is said to be the Greenest Canyon on the planet.
  • The runway at Hoedspruit Airport was built as an alternative (emergency) landing airport for the NASA Space Shuttle Program.

The town itself is effectively a support centre for the countless wildlife and tourism industries and agricultural sector. A further characteristic of Hoedspruit town is that it has two large residential Estates namely; Raptors View Wildlife Estate and Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate - both estates have plains game on them, making them a ideal place for those who wish to live in a wildlife haven.

The main agricultural products produced in the Hoedspruit area is Citrus and Mango's production with wildlife and cattle farming being lesser contributors.
